Roger Federer Net Worth
Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player with an estimated net worth $140 million. He was born on August 8th, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. His parents Robert and Lynette worked in pharmacueticals. His mother is a native of South Africa. His childhood was spent playing tenis with his parents and his older sister Diana. From an early age it was clear that Federer had a talent for the game. At the age of eight he became a part of the Basel junior program. At the age of ten Roger met Australian player Peter Carter. Carter saw Federer’s potential and helped him develop it for the next four years. At the age of 13 Roger accepted an invitation to attend Switzerland’s national training center. This meant that he would have to leave home because the center was two hours away from his home. We would come home on the weekends which he loved. Though the training was great the center was located in a part of the Country where Frech was mostly spoken. This made Federer an outcast considering he did not speak the laungauge. He was there for three years until they opened a training center in Biel. Peter Carter was one of the instructors there so Roger jumped at the oppurtunity to be reunited with his old coach. Under Peter’s guidance Federer rose in the world’s top junior ranking. He proved this by winning Wimbledon junior singles, double titles, the Orange bowl (in Florida), and earning the ITF’s #1 world ranking.
In 1999 Roger went pro. He did very well for himself in his first year reaching semi-finals in a tournament in Vienna. But his biggest victory came when he defeated Carlos Moya who was ranked #5 at the time. This and a few other wins helped him become the youngest memeber of the ATP’s tour top 100. In 2000 Federer made it to two finals with ATP. He did not win either. His huge accomplishment that year was representing Switzerland at the Olympics. Though he did not win any medals it was here where he met Miroslava Vavrinec who was part of the Swiss woman’s team. She became a big part of his life even being considering a part of the Federer family. In 2001 Roger’s potential finally came to full bloom when he won his first ATP single title. He would follow this triumph up by defeating the US with his Swiss Davis Cup Team. All of these sucess led to the press coinging the “Federer Express” in their headlines. With this newfound glory Roger went on to win his first two ATP doubles titles. He ended off the seasson ranked #13 in singles. Though Federer secured many victories he still suffered many loses. Many of his fans began to grow impatient waiting for Roger to crack the top ten. He had the talent to defeat many players but he also lacked the discipline to win every match. Roger was still very young and even during important competitions he would go out drinking all night. One night he recieved many phone calls from his Coach Peter Lundgren but he dodged many of his phone calls. By the day he picked up Roger’s found out that it was not to get him to go get some rest but to inform him that his former mentor and friend Peter Carter had died. Carter’s death shook Roger to the core. He realized that he had not lived up to anything that Carter had taught him as a tenis player and even a man. Roger decided it was time to step up his game in and outside of the court.
Though Roger’s new way of life did not fall into place quickly he was still able to come in ranked at # 6 for that year. The next year started off strong for Federer when he won his first ten matches. Roger proved a lot to himself and the tenis world at Grass which is a warm up to Wimbledon. He went unbeaten there as he headed into the semi-finals. Though he was the underdog in the semi-finals match he went on to victory. And from there he went swept the tournament. He would go on to the finals in a few other tournaments but did not take any of them. In 2004 Roger won the Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. For the first time in his entire career this made him the tour’s #1 ranking. He would continue to hold his ranking for another three tournaments. But even with one lost in between it was not enough to keep Roger down., He went on to win Wimbledon. This and many other wins established Roger as head of a new wave of male tenis players. Since then he has gone onto capture many more tenis championships and is widely reguarded as one of the best tenis players around.

US Open 2011: Novak Djokovic beats Roger Federer in five sets

US Open men's final

  • Venue: Flushing Meadows, New York
  • Date: 12 September
  • Start time: 2100 BST
  • Coverage: Live text commentary, latest score, pictures and reports on BBC website; TV coverage on Sky Sports & Eurosport

World number one Novak Djokovic saved two match points against Roger Federer for the second year running to win a thrilling US Open semi-final.
Federer's attacking style held sway early on but Djokovic roared back to win 6-7 (7-9) 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5.
The Serbian now stands one win from a fourth Grand Slam title, and his third of an incredible 2011 season.
He will play Rafael Nadal on Monday in a repeat of last year's final after the champion beat Britain's Andy Murray.

"It was definitely the biggest win of this year, one of the biggest wins of the career, under the circumstances," said Djokovic. "I was two sets down. Roger was in control, he was playing better and then I switched gears and I managed to play much better in three sets."
Djokovic beat Federer in a dramatic semi-final 12 months ago before Federer took some measure of revenge by ending the Serbian's unbeaten run at the French Open in June.
After a rain delay of almost an hour and a half, the latest chapter of their rivalry finally got under way on a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium and there were no break points in a desperately tight first set.
A tie-break always looked like likely and it was Djokovic who faltered with an error and a double-fault to fall 5-2 behind, although Federer would need five set points before clinching it.
With the tension of the tie-break out of the way, Federer stepped up a gear and got the first break of the match at 1-1 thanks to a beautiful backhand up the line and a wrong-footing forehand.
There had been no real alarms for the Swiss until he faced break point in game six, and a wayward forehand brought Djokovic back into the set, but minutes later Federer had broken to love to move 4-3 ahead.

It was a huge blow to Djokovic, who trooped back to his chair disconsolately and found himself two sets down minutes later.
The Serbian's form had been a shadow of that which brought him into the match with a stunning 62-2 record for the year, but he grabbed a lifeline when Federer netted a backhand on break point early in the third.
Djokovic served his way to the third set and made a major breakthrough by breaking at the start of the fourth with a brilliant backhand from out wide that Federer could only volley into the net.
The world number one was suddenly in total command, racing through the fourth set for the loss of just three points on serve to force a decider.
Roared on by the majority of the 23,000 spectators, Federer regained the initiative with a vital break at 4-3 in the fifth set when Djokovic dropped serve to love, and serving for the match at 40-15 he looked as good as home.
But a breathtaking Djokovic return, that the Serbian celebrated with the crowd, and a net cord saw those chances slip away, and after the 30-year-old Swiss double-faulted to give the break back there was no stopping the top seed.
Djokovic powered through the final four games of the match to claim his 63rd, and surely most dramatic, victory of 2011.
"Sure, it's disappointing, but I have only myself to blame," said Federer, who will end the year without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2002.
"I set it all up perfect, but I couldn't finish it. It was a tough year in terms of some tough losses at some crucial stages of the season but look, it's not the first time it's happened.
"I have had big matches where I ended up losing some, but the majority I was able to win throughout my career."
Asked about his celebration after saving the first match point, Djokovic said: "I needed to get some energy from the crowd. It was normal to expect they were a little bit more on the side of Roger, maybe the greatest player ever. It was no surprise.
"But I thought at that certain moment I had to get some of the crowd energy behind me. And it worked."
